LHI Supports China’s Leading Perovskite Cell Manufacturer in Accelerating the Launch of Its 100 MW Production Line

In July 2024, a 100 MW perovskite photovoltaic module production line—customized by Lead Hydrogen Intelligent (LHI) for a top perovskite cell manufacturer of China — entered the equipment delivery phase.

As one of the first 100 MW pilot lines launched nationwide, the project is equipped with LHI’s next-generation perovskite slot-die wide coating machine with a coating width of 1200 mm. The system provides critical support for the industry of China’s perovskite PV sector.

Perovskite PV Poised for Scale-Up

Large-Area Coating Awaits Breakthrough

As the photoelectric conversion efficiency of conventional crystalline silicon cells approaches its theoretical ceiling of 29.4%, the industry has turned its attention to next-generation photovoltaic technologies that offer higher efficiency limits and broader application potential. With rapid breakthroughs in research, perovskite cells have demonstrated conversion efficiencies surpassing 40% through tandem structures—breaking through the constraints of crystalline silicon cells while benefiting from low material costs and short manufacturing chains. These advantages have propelled perovskite to the forefront as a promising next-generation PV technology.

Against the backdrop of rising polysilicon and wafer prices, the industrialization of perovskite cells began in 2022, with multiple production lines initiated. However, as the technology advances from laborator to pilot-scale and then to MW/GW-level manufacturing, significant challenges remain—particularly in the coating process, a core production step. The thickness uniformity, film quality, and large-area consistency of the perovskite layer have a decisive influence on cell efficiency and module stability. Achieving fast, uniform, and scalable large-area coating has therefore become the key to realizing true mass production.

First Machine Delivered Achieves 1,200 mm Coating Width

Leveraging LEAD’s extensive experience across photovoltaic, lithium-ion, and fuel cell manufacturing, LHI continues to make steady breakthroughs in perovskite production equipment, accelerating the development of perovskite cells toward mass manufacturing.

For this 100 MW line, LHI provided an advanced perovskite coating system designed for slot-die coating of the perovskite layer, interfacial modification layers, and other functional layers compatible with pilot and mass-production lines. Featuring LHI’s proprietary gantry dual-drive motion system, air vibration isolator, and high-precision feeding system, the equipment enables high-speed coating while maintaining uniformity across large-format layer. The system also provides a fully isolated vibration-control environment to ensure coating stability. With a coating speed exceeding 50 mm/s, the platform delivers both efficiency and reliability for customers moving rapidly toward commercialization.

LHI can now provide large-area coating solutions for MW-level manufacturing, pilot lines, and laboratory applications. Backed by LEAD’s 20 years of non-standard equipment engineering expertise, LHI provides end-to-end customization of both mechanical structure and software control. For this project, LHI oversaw the entire equipment-manufacturing lifecycle—from design, drawings, software, production, installation, and commissioning. The equipment is a critical part of a customized automated line with whole-line automation, precise positioning, and stable operation, ensuring high-quality, high-efficiency manufacturing. The customer has given strong and positive feedback on the system’s performance.
